Igniting the Future of Team Handball

The Handball Futures Festival brings together the top women’s handball athletes in the United States. Modeled after the Original Olympic Sport Festival, the event combines elite competition, community, and national team exposure in one immersive experience.

Forty-eight athletes — selected through an invitation-only process — will compete in a tournament environment that mirrors international play, showcasing their skills and readiness to advance in their athletic careers. The Festival also serves as a key talent identification moment, with athletes evaluated by the Women’s National Team Coach. 

More than a tournament, the Festival celebrates women’s handball in the U.S. — strengthening the national pipeline, fostering regional connection, and helping define the future of the sport.

Festival competition runs July 22–25, 2026, at Fountain Valley School — an extraordinary setting for this event. Set on a 1,100-acre prairie campus at the base of the Rocky Mountains, this boarding and day school in the heart of the American West offers world-class facilities befitting an occasion of national significance.

Colorado Springs, home to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, is one of the most storied cities in American sport — a fitting backdrop for a Festival designed to elevate the next generation of elite women’s handball athletes.

Handball Futures Festival begins.

Match – 4:00PM – Youth Try-It Clinic. Open to Girls and Boys 10-16 Years Old. Free to public. Olympian autograph signing. Register for clinic.

The blueprint behind this Festival
In 1978, Bill and Frankie Tutt created the National Sports Festival — later the U.S. Olympic Festival — to give American athletes consistent, high-level competition between Olympic cycles. The first one was held right here in Colorado Springs, the same year the U.S. Olympic Committee moved its headquarters to the city.
In their words: “we aimed to provide consistent, high-level competition for American athletes.”

One of the festival’s biggest legacies? Spotlighting lesser-known sports — team handball included — and giving them a stage to grow.
That’s the model we’re building on. The Handball Futures Festival is our answer to the Tutts’ blueprint: a dedicated event, right here in Olympic City USA, giving Team Handball the consistent, high-visibility platform it needs to grow toward LA 2028 and beyond.
