Athlete Spotlight: Vicky Johnson

Vicky Johnson first discovered team handball while watching the Olympics, drawn in by the sport’s fast pace and intensity. When she learned about Handball Futures, she took the leap—joining our Atlanta Tryouts and committing fully to the journey ahead.

Since then, Vicky has attended all four of our Development & Skills Camps—in North Carolina, Colorado, California, and Chicago—consistently sharpening her skills and embracing the learning process. Her dedication, athletic background, and competitive drive have stood out at every step.

Vicky’s athletic experience runs deep. She has competed in soccer (including semi-professionally), softball, volleyball, and team handball, CrossFit and has played with the Firehawks/Houston Team Handball Club. Her multi-sport foundation and commitment to growth have helped accelerate her development in handball.

“The coaches at Handball Futures have been pivotal in helping me grow as a player and build a strong foundation in the fundamentals of the game. The training sessions have given me the opportunity to gain confidence and develop a rhythm for the flow of play. It has also helped create and grow a strong community around the sport of handball.”

We are incredibly proud to share that Vicky has been invited by the USA Team Handball Women’s National Team to participate in the residency program in Florida—an exciting next step on the national pathway.

From watching the Olympics to stepping onto the national stage, Vicky’s journey reflects the core mission of Handball Futures: to be an engine of access and opportunity for women in the sport.

We are proud to be part of her pathway—and can’t wait to see what’s next. 💙
